Built for Real Life: The Practical Design Behind Muckee

Before I had kids, I thought I knew what parenting would look like. All the things that I bought were whites and creams, neutral minimalist things that matched my personal style.

Then my little humans came along and I learned pretty quickly that what you think parenting will look like and what it actually looks like, can be completely different things.

When you're designing something for little humans and their messy, wild, constantly-on-the-move lives, every detail matters.

As a mum of two, I designed Muckee for the reality of parenting, which is spilled yogurt at the kitchen table, sticky fingers in the car, snack time adventures at the zoo. 

That's why everything about Muckee is intentional… and maybe even a little obsessive.

The Hook

The elastic loop on every Muckee washcloth is flexible enough to fit on all things like high chair trays, pram handles, car seat anchors, even my Stokke. The elastic is designed with the right amount of give so it adapts to whatever you've got. The elastic is also designed to be safe around little ones so that it won't pinch or cause harm.

And when you're out and about, your Muckee hangs exactly where you need it. Ready to go. 

The Edges

I discovered early on that other washcloths had seams where the fabric edge met the cloth itself. I found that that little ridge was an irritant, especially for sensitive, eczema-prone skin (like my kids). We overlocked every edge on our Muckee’s so there's no catching, no rough bits, just smooth cloth from edge to edge.

The overlocked edges might fray very slightly over time, but it’s well considered to ensure the whole cloth is usable and as sensitive as possible for little skin.

The Size and Thickness

Muckee is big enough for big hands and little hands. It's thick enough to actually do the job and wipe a whole face and hands between rinses, without being bulky so that it’s also perfect for on the go. We wanted something that works at the high chair and when you're wiping down a toddler's hands at their big sister's kindergarten because they’ve put their hands in paint (just my child?!).

Why This Matters

When I was designing Muckee, I wasn't willing to choose. Something that looked good or practical. I wanted both.

That's why we have bright colours that are bold. Why the design is clean and intentional. Why it hangs perfectly on all of the things. But also, and importantly, why it actually works. 

Your little human deserves practicality. And you deserve products designed by a Mum who knows the brief.
